ANREEE presents license for the registration of batteries and accumulators

New legislation enforces the registration of producers of batteries and accumulators, as already happens with producers of Electrical and Electronic Equipment

ANREEE presented this month to APA – Portuguese Agency of the Environment - the license requesting to extend its activities to the registration of batteries and accumulators (B&A). This new register is one of the requirements of the recent Decree-Law 6/09, which is to regulate the collection and treatment of B&A on the national market.

In resemblance with EEE producers, the B&A producers need, until the month of September, to be registered and ensure a system of waste management for the collection and treatment of their spent batteries and accumulators.

"Taking advantage of the similarity of the two procedures and the fact that many EEE producers are, simultaneously, producers of batteries, I believe that is reasonable to make this service available to our current producers (and all other), through a solution of registration which is ready and optimized by ANREEE – the SIRPEEE", emphasizes Rui Cabral, Executive Director of ANREEE.

The license ANREEE requested for B&A registration arises in line with the position that European pairs are adopting.

"In addition to operational and functional advantages using a single method and a single tool, the joining of two registers will also bring economic benefits to all producers, since its implementation has practically no costs and growth in units declared will bring, subsequently, the conditions for pursue a policy for a reduction of fees", concluded Rui Cabral.
