Concentration of Hazardous Substances

Conc.Haz.Subst.B&A

There are substances that, for the danger they pose to man and environment, have concentration limits that are not met, induce the prohibition and sale of B&A into national markets
Therefore, the concentration limits of hazardous substances in some types of B&A are the following:

1. Batteries or accumulators which concentration of mercury is less than 5 ppm
Whether they are portable, industrial and automotive, the concentration of mercury in B&A can not exceed 5 ppm. All concentrations of mercury above this limit are prohibited by Decree - Law

2. Button-cells which concentration of mercury is less than 20.000 ppm

Button-cell, although of the portable type, is an exception to the concentrations of mercury considered in section 1.
Mainly because these cells are normally used for special purposes, such as hearing aids, small appliances and portable devices up power.
Thus, the concentrations of mercury are permitted up to 20.000 ppm

3. Portable batteries which concentration of cadmium is below 20 ppm

Only portable batteries have a limit of concentration of cadmium. This can not be greater than 20 ppm. All concentrations above this value are prohibited by DL.

Other types of B&A (industrial and vehicle type) may have concentrations of cadmium exceeding 20 ppm.

4. Portable batteries incorporated in alarm systems and emergency, including emergency lighting, medical equipment and cordless power tools, which the concentration of cadmium exceeds 20 ppm
Although there are limits in the concentration of cadmium on B&A of portable type, an exception is made for portable batteries which are incorporated in alarm systems and emergency, including emergency lighting, medical equipment and cordless power tools.

All types of P & A that contain lead in its composition do not have limits on lead. Thus, there is no prohibition of B&A placed on the market with this element.
