1. Placement of batteries or accumulators on the national market, alone or incorporated into appliances or vehicles
All companies that place in Portugal, Batteries and Accumulators (B&A), alone or incorporated into appliances or vehicles, must register with ANREEE and are considered producers of B&A.
There are limits on concentrations of substances deemed hazardous, when exceeded, preventing the placing of batteries or accumulators in any market in the Member – States.

2. Placement of batteries or accumulators used in equipment intended for military purposes only
All companies that put on the market, batteries or accumulators used in:
• Equipment related to defense and security, including weapons, ammunition and military equipment provided for military purposes only;
• Equipment designed to be sent into space
Are excluded from the scope of Decree 6 / 2009 and not required, for the purpose of registering.

3. Placing batteries and accumulators, alone or incorporated in devices
Any company that puts on the Portuguese market batteries or accumulators, alone or incorporated into appliances shall be registered in ANREEE.
It is understood by batteries or accumulators any battery, button cell - (*), battery pack (**) or battery that is sealed, and can be hand-carried and is not an industrial battery or accumulator nor an automotive battery or accumulator, in particular batteries consist of a single element, such as AA and AAA batteries and the batteries used in mobile phones, laptop computers, cordless power tools, toys and household appliances.

(*) Button cell: small cell or small round portable battery in diameter than its height, used for special purposes, notably for hearing aids, watches, small portable devices and backup power.
(**) Battery pack: set of batteries or accumulators that are connected together and / or encapsulated within an enclosure forming a complete unit, not intended to split up or open by the end user.

4. Placing batteries or accumulators, alone or incorporated into appliances or electric vehicles
Any company that puts on the Portuguese market batteries or accumulators, alone or incorporated into appliances or electric vehicles must register with ANREEE.
Industrial batteries are those that are designed exclusively for industrial or professional uses or used in any type of electric vehicles, including those used as source of emergency power or in hospitals, airports or offices, designed exclusively for portable payment terminals in shops and restaurants for readers and bar code in shops, used in instrumentation or in various types of measuring devices, those used in connection with renewable energy applications as solar panels and those used in electric vehicles as, for example, cars, wheelchairs, bicycles, airport vehicles and automatic transport vehicles.

5. Placing batteries or accumulators for vehicles, alone or incorporated in motor vehicles
Every company that puts on the Portuguese batteries or accumulators for vehicles, alone or incorporated in motor vehicles must register in ANREEE.
It is understood by batteries or accumulators for those vehicles that are used to provide power to the starter, lighting or ignition.
